How to Ace Your Next Escape Room Job Interview!

Tue, 23 Jun, 2020

We all know how stressful job hunts can be. Putting yourself out there to be analysed and interviewed by several potential employers and not knowing whether you’ll be accepted or rejected isn’t exactly anyone’s idea of fun.

Being able to present yourself as the ideal candidate takes a little practice and research, something that’s particularly true when applying to an escape room company.

Applicants need to be fairly well-rounded in order to keep up with the fast-paced nature of the business!

Think you’ve got what it takes? Here’s what to prepare for if you’re thinking about taking that giant leap into the exciting world of escape games!

How Well Do You Communicate?

Escape rooms and communication go hand-in-hand; it’s arguably the most important characteristic that employers look out for. People commonly mistake effective communication with the ability to speak loudly or confidently. While this is true to some degree, having communication skills actually refers to being receptive to the ideas of others as well as being able to share your own without being contentious or hostile.

Can You Multitask?

There are times when multitasking is a must. Can you keep a watchful eye on a group of escapees, making sure they’re having fun while playing safely? Do they need assistance or are they simply taking their time? Bookings, content creation and other menial tasks such as keeping the workplace tidy also require attention on a day-to-day basis.

Are You Organised?

Escape rooms contain lots of individual pieces, puzzles, objects, props and décor. Not to mention their own unique narratives. It’s important that candidates show their organisational skills if they’re to be left in charge of an active escape room. They’ll quickly need to know the rooms like the back of their hand in order to provide players with the best assistance and to be able to properly reset the rooms for the next group.

How’s Your Personality?

Escape room employees have to deal with dozens of unique individuals on a daily basis. Needless to say, guests from all walks of life should feel comfortable and accommodated during their visit to an escape venue. In order to provide the best service, candidates are required to be polite, understanding and approachable. If you think you’ve got all three, great!
